Just like with multimedia filters cartridge filters can have multiple treatment functions. The most common is turbidity reduction all the ways down to 1 micron, but organic matter, chlorine, iron and hardness reduction is also common functions of different cartridge filter.
The range is huge and often multi filter skids are built to meet the specific application. But commonly the solutions are used for lower flows like as pre filtration for a small reverse osmosis plant or UV disinfection solution.
